The Night Limbo Ceased to Exist

Somewhere there’s a place that isn’t a place
condoned by a church that isn’t a church.
Suddenly word reaches it that it never
existed even though it exists
and it disappears.

Another day a group of theologians that aren’t theologians
decide that the Lord’s Prayer was never the lord’s
prayer and it too ceases to exist.

Deep in the bowels of hell, a heretic who is not a heretic
smiles when he hears that he is no longer a heretic, and
he reappears even though he never disappeared.

In the newspapers, the reporters who aren’t really
reporters report that the shroud of Turin
wasn’t worn by Jesus. When word reaches
the blonde, blue eyed deity, he can’t
help but die again even though he’s
already dead. He frowns and
ceases to exist.

Ruth at the Ever So Secret Order of the Lamprey, October 7, 2001

Long haired
Girl-woman
– Struts in,
Wearing
Tall boots
And a mauve
Leather jacket
Proud as Nico,
Amongst the art pieces,
Remnants of a dead civilization,
Reminders that art once existed.
Big eyed, full of wonder
This quiet, bubbly, effervescent
Buoyant, living spirit of the 60’s,
Reveals herself in conversation as
Eagerly and joyfully as a child
Unwrapping a present for Christmas.
